HOW OUR BIRDS ARE RAISED
All of our birds Free Range and live together when they are not penned for breeding purposes. We feel this gives our birds the freedom they need to live as natural a life as possible and still meet our goals during breeding season. Free Ranging allows them to eat bugs, grass, weed seeds, fruits and vegetables along with free their choice feed. When penned for breeding we ensure they are fed a high quality nourish feed and supplemented with a lot of fresh vegetables and fruits from the garden.
There are the occasional squabbles between the Geese, Turkeys and Chickens especially in the spring when the hormones are in high gear, however for the most part they all live together in harmony. Our goal is to keep birds that all get along together and the occasional bird that doesn’t want to fit in is weeded out.
We use diatomaceous earth and wood ash for their dust bath areas, and add diatomaceous earth to their nest boxes as well as a supplement in their feed.
We are very fortunate to have neighbors that raise great corn and grains along with some of the best rich and leafy Alfalfa Hay in the valley. This leafy Alfalfa is a great supplement for all the birds through the winter months as well as when they are penned for breeding.
Since we are “NOT” a hatchery we raise our birds for a multitude of purposes. Fist and foremost is for the enjoyment of having them.
Our goal is not to make big profits but to simply supplement the cost of keeping and feeding them as well as sharing them with others. For that reason birds that hatch with imperfections or are not considered for breeding quality are “NOT” killed as in the many big hatcheries. As long as a bird can survive and have a good natural life we will either give them to a loving home or raise them for butcher birds.
Feel Free to visit our collection of birds and I will try to give you as much information about them as I can! If you have any questions please contact us and I will try to assist you. Contact us Here!
